Vehicle Service FAQ

If you own a vehicle, you understand just how important it is to take care of it. You probably want to get as many miles out of your vehicle as possible, but that means that you need to bring it to the service center regularly for preventative maintenance. At Marthaler Honda of Ashland, it would be our pleasure to help you take care of all of your maintenance needs. We take great pride in educating our drivers, and we are here to answer your questions before we get started with your service. What are a few of the most common questions that people ask us?

Q: How often do I need to bring my vehicle to the service center?

A: In general, you need to bring your vehicle to us at least once per year or every 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you go too long without routine maintenance, you increase your chances of having to deal with a serious repair. When you bring your car in for routine maintenance, you give us a chance to take a look at your vehicle, identify potential problems, and fix them before they get out of hand.

Q: How do I know when my tires are worn out?

A: As long as you rotate your tires regularly, you should expect to get approximately 30,000 miles out of them. Even though every set of tires is different, there are a few signs that could indicate that your tires are worn out. For example, you may realize that it is taking you longer to come to a complete stop. Or, you might notice that you are having a difficult time driving in the rain. Give us a call, and ask us to rotate your tires for you. We will take a look at your tires to make sure they are still safe.

Q: What happens if I do not change the oil in my car?

A: If you do not change the oil in your car regularly, you can shorten the lifespan of your vehicle. The oil is responsible for protecting your engine. If you do not change the oil, the friction in the engine can get out of hand, causing it to burn out quickly. Furthermore, your engine has a much greater chance of overheating. Learn more about the dangers of driving with low oil levels here.

Q: How long should my battery last?

A: Every battery is different, but in general, you should expect to get between three and five years of use out of your battery. If you notice some of the electrical components in your vehicle are having issues, it could be a sign that the battery is worn out. Or, if you continuously have to jumpstart your engine, it might be a sign that you need to replace the battery.

Q: How do I know if my brakes are going bad?

A: Multiple components have to work together to bring your car to a complete stop. Some of the most important components of your brakes include your brake fluid, your brake rotors, your brake pads, and your brake calipers. If any of these parts start to go bad, your car may have a difficult time coming to a complete stop. For example, it might take your car longer to stop when you hit the brakes. Or, you may notice that your car twists every time you press the brakes. You may even hear a strange grinding noise coming from the car when you press the brake pedal. These are all indications that your brakes need to be looked at, and it would be our pleasure to help you.
